Do your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews have any idea what your life or your parents’ and grandparents’ lives were like? Where they came from? How they met? What they did to survive and what challenges shaped their lives? If you’re like most of us, you probably think about sitting down with these family members one day so they can share those memories with you – but never do, and treasured family history is lost forever. This is where we come in.
The award-winning filmmakers behind Life Out Loud Productions™ can help you preserve your family’s past and tell your family’s story in the most thoughtful, engaging and compelling way. It’s something we've been doing for celebrities, newsmakers and everyday people for decades, and we can do it for you, too. Imagine how you would feel being able to see and hear your parents or grandparents relive their most treasured life experiences, recount how the family business got started, or pass on important life lessons. Now imagine all of those stories expertly and artfully woven together with family photographs, home movies, archival footage and music and you’ll begin to appreciate just how powerful and emotional the experience can be. The best part? Your family’s story will be preserved and cherished for generations to come.
“The piece is just brilliant. I laughed. I cried. And it’s much more than I ever expected. I am simply blown away. I want to watch it again and again tonight, but understand that I’ll have it for the rest of my life and for generations to come.”
“Not only is their work incredibly smart and touching, but we can’t imagine working with better people than Barbara and Oliver, which is a good thing. Because after completing our project, they know all of us better than we know ourselves! They are creative, bright, witty, kind, true professionals who produced a finished product that exceeded our expectations in every way.”
"The documentary they created made all of our old photographs come alive, and makes our family seem even closer. It's a pleasure to sit with your family and review your past as well as your ancestors' past and to know that, in the future, your children and grandchildren can do the same."
Perhaps you want your children or grandchildren to get to know your parents or grandparents as well as you do. Or maybe there’s someone in your family you wish to honor (or roast) for a special occasion (a birthday, anniversary, wedding, family reunion or retirement party). Some clients want to memorialize someone they love who is no longer alive. Whatever your reason, Life Out Loud™ will help you bring your stories to life in a sensitive and thoughtful way, and ensure that your favorite memories will not be forgotten by future generations. A video biography is truly a gift that keeps on giving.
Some clients hire us to interview only the subject of the film Others want us to interview relatives, friends, neighbors and colleagues, too. Deciding who tells your story is as critical as determining the substance of your story.
Although each production is unique, a typical documentary feature runs 45-75 minutes, depending on how many people are interviewed. Mini-documentary profiles or tributes to a single family member tend to run 10-20 minutes.
Ordinarily, we provide our clients with the finished film on a thumb drive or external hard drive, which allows them to transfer the file to a computer or other device. We can also upload the film to your favorite online video-sharing platform (such as YouTube or Vimeo), where you can share it with whomever you choose to grant access.
All of our work is shot, edited, color-corrected and sweetened using the latest broadcast-quality equipment and technology to ensure the highest quality production. From the simplest montage of photographs to the most comprehensive, full-featured documentary, our goal is to use the most advanced and versatile tools to help tell your story.
Just like every story is different, so is the scope of every project. This includes variations of how many people are interviewed, the number of film clips and photographs used, and the length of the production. Send us a quick note with your idea and we can give you a rough idea of what the budget might be.
